USB-IF announced that the next generation of “USB4” architecture is coming in March this year.
The biggest change is that it will be based directly on the Thunderbolt 3 agreement provided by Intel.
Let’s first talk about Thunderbolt, which was jointly developed by Intel 2011 and Apple.
Two years ago, Intel opened the Thunderbolt standard to other chip vendors. The USB-IF Forum also took the opportunity to develop a compatible USB4 transmission standard specification with the same transmission technology and 40Gbps speed. In this way, Intel can be regarded as promote Thunderbolt 3 directly.
1. Use the Type C cable for dual-channel operation for up to 40Gbps.
2. A variety of data and display agreements to jointly utilize the overall bandwidth.
3. Compatible with USB3.2, USB2.0 and Thunderbolt 3.
USB4’s transfer rate is twice as high as USB 3.2’s peak, reaching 40Gbps, and is compatible with Thunderbolt 3. These two points are far ahead of USB3.2.
According to the news from the USB promotion organization, retail products supporting USB4 functions are expected to be available in the second half of next year. At present, many manufacturers are preparing related new products. The combination of USB4 and Thunderbolt 3 can help consumer ignore the interface, speed up the popularity of Type-C and promote the development and design of more related devices. As a result, the USB interface (USB Type-A) is often seen nowadays will gradually disappear.USB Type-C will gradually become the mainstream in place of Type-A, step by step toward the global system.
